Director's statement:
I've always had a deep feeling with what it takes to be a good person. I want to be a good person. Being a good person is different to everyone. But to me, from what I've heard from my friends, is over the top, but to me, it's the bare minimum. I wanted Totoben to be someone like me (now I didn't do any of the actions and crimes he did obviously) someone who's having a conflict with himself that affect the people around him in positive or negative ways. I wanted Totoben to be seen as a character who's trying their best to change and is really trying to turn into a good person no matter what.
I also enjoy seeing meaning in things that don't often seem to have meaning. Names, images, everything that is described has a purpose. It's not just fluff. The names listed, Winter, Spring, Summer, Totoben, Peine, Manipulé, and Bote all mean something to me, or something to popular related culture or language.
I want to show the world, if not a small majority, that anyone can be a good person if they start now. If they do what they think is what it takes to be a good person they can become one. The journey is hard, from my experience, but it's something I don't regret taking to this day.
