Patricia Robinson(lead role-black, 20-25) is in Hanford’s Women’s Correctional Facility for killing her abusive husband, Andrew Robinson(lead role-white 30-35). As part of her rehabilitation, she must go through a state-mandated program with other inmates who have also killed their abusive husbands. One of the main stipulations of the program is that the inmate must tell their story of abuse in a group therapy session. Doctor Morgan heads the group therapy sessions which are held in one of the prison classrooms. He is well respected by the inmates. There are about ten women in the group. One by one the women tell their horrific stories of verbal and physical abuse they experienced from their partners as well as what lead them to kill them. When it is Patricia’s turn to tell her story she refuses to talk and even gets into a fight with Sharon, an inmate who tries to convince her to tell her story. Carol, another inmate, also talks to Patricia and tries to convince her to tell her story. Later, Doctor Morgan threatens to throw Patricia out of the state-mandated program, which would mean a longer prison term for her. When Patricia decides to tell her powerful and compelling story, we flash back into her life with her abusive husband Andrew Robinson and the horrible events which lead her to kill him.
