The Korean war is at about an end and a small patriotic town in Eastland county is all but dwindled of men, just a few young and old and hand full of broken Marines make up of a once proud staple of willing Marines. News and memory shed the spirit daily. DOROTHY, 33, a hardened widow and mother of two works at the local Fabrication mill with the girls. Struggling to make ends meet she grinds out the day only to be menaced by an old broken drunk JIMMY DEACON, 27, a young guitarist who can't seem to let go of the war and whiskey. He has nothing going for him except the county fair where he and the boys compete for bragging rights against the Tennessee Volunteers a band that just seems to steal the show evertime.
One night broadcast comes on the air "The Korean war has come to an end" and at that moment Jimmy decides to make a statement of his own. He fires his shotgun in the air and say It is over". From there on out he goes clean and the town begins to slowly recover come back to life. The mill closes down and the girls find themselves facing unemployment, so they decide to open up a garage, but no one wants their pride and joy repaired by a couple of ladies, until one day the town barber and Jimmy's fellow band member persuades the town counsel to pitch in and help the girls out. The town lines up and the girls make busy, while one romantic rainy Jimmy and Dorothy get to know one another. Just as things get going tragedy strikes close. The town falls to hardship, so Jimmy digs down and pulls an ace from his sleeve winning hearts and setting everything on place for the county fair.
Come forth of July the Fair is set up and the town pulls together for one more miracle, bring hope that trophy and bring life back into the town once again.
