Future. The ecology of the Earth is on the verge of destruction. Civilization is divided into two camps - the poor majority, living in the open sky covered with a continuous veil of brown clouds, and the rich minority, living in Gigapolis, paradise oases protected from dying nature by giant domes of force fields. The rich strive to go to other planets, the poor demand to fight to save the Earth. The World Congress takes the side of the rich and directs all the means of civilization to the resettlement program, which causes mass protests that threaten to escalate into a bloody war.
Astronaut Aiden leaves his girlfriend Marlene for career advancement and flies away on an experimental ship capable of expanding space and reaching superluminal speed. Strange phenomena begin to occur on the ship. Objects and the appearance of the astronauts change their shape, and then mysterious, aggressive shadows appear on the ship. The astronauts engage them in battle, and Aiden, suspecting him of treason, is locked in his cabin. Finding himself in trouble, Aiden looks at life in a new way. His conscience is tormenting him. He guesses that shadows are the materialization of negative emotions: fear, selfishness, anger. Aiden realizes that he can control this world.
At this time, civil war breaks out on Earth and humanity dies.
Having learned to control the distorted reality, Aiden emerges from captivity and comes to the aid of the team still fighting the shadows. The astronauts see a true friend in Aiden, and this makes them listen to his arguments and finally understand that their reality is disappearing, and a new one is being formed in its place. In a whirlwind of distortion, the light fades and the astronauts lose consciousness.
When they wake up, the friends discover that in their new reality they are not astronauts, but patients in a psychiatric hospital, canteen employees who suddenly imagine themselves as astronauts. Former astronauts find the strength to admit their own madness and doctors release them, because a person who has realized his delusions cannot be considered crazy. In the new reality, they have telepathy and then they decide to save the Earth, because here everything can happen again - both an unsuccessful flight and the death of humanity. They penetrate the space navigation institute, and using their equipment, they expand space, becoming closer to the people of the planet, and mentally appeal to them with a request to take care of the Earth and be more humane.
The next morning, the news comes out - the World Congress votes in favor of saving the Earth and freezing the resettlement program. The joyful voices and thoughts of former astronauts are heard on the air, but Aiden is subject to something more than just telepathy. We see that in the brown clouds that have shrouded the Earth, above the house of Aiden and Marlene, a circle of clear sky shines.
