Screenplay Synopsis:
The film is styled as a mockumentary.
The narrator introduces Blomdel High School and the six alumni who, twenty years ago, took a Theatre II class and formed a premier acting company: Blue Balls. They are:
-Mickey Toner, a Blomdel English teacher who gets no respect from his students.
-Ashley Barrett, a famous actress who starred in a popular sitcom for nine years.
-Valentina Falasca, a sex worker and activist who enjoys a life of independence.
-Orson Munch, a digital ad exec with a stereotypical family life in the suburbs.
-Jessica Eckler, a reclusive novelist who lives alone with her cat.
-Chris Katz, a divorced accountant who gave up a life as an actor to raise his children.
They reunite at the school to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of their most famous work: Plane Scene. They learn that the Vice Principal who organized the reunion perished in a hot air balloon accident, leaving them in the hands of their former gym teacher Mr. Dodd. Mr. Dodd suggests they perform Plane Scene for the student body after school. They agree for the sake of the luncheon honoring them immediately after.
They meet the current theatre students and reunite with their former teacher, Akiko Nakahara. They rehearse Plane Scene, but realize that no one remembers how it goes. Tensions rise and egos clash as they stumble through the day. Desperate, they attempt to rehearse a lesser known scene in lieu of Plane Scene. Also, Mr. Dodd keeps shuffling the group around, eventually sticking them in a broom closet for lack of space.
Mickey struggles to gain respect from his peers. Ashley is stunned to learn that her star is fading. Orson and Valentina torment each other, but it is revealed they took each other’s virginities as students. Chris and Jessica, who dated in high school but parted badly, rekindle their friendship until he angrily discovers that she wrote a popular novel under a pen name, making her rich but embarrassing her due to its lack of substance.
Chris and Jessica resolve their differences and help the others remember Plane Scene. They all come together for one last successful performance in front of a packed crowd.
