Rick has recently been released from a psychiatric facility. Doctors realize his propensity towards inflicting mental trauma on others, warn the courts against his release. The warnings deemed unjustified. Rick is released, unconditionally.
Rick is a kind man, non-violent. Quiet and reserved. Acutely aware, of his malaise and the fact he is not in control of his insane propensity for destruction. Because of this, Rick seeks solitude. Not only to protect himself but others who may wonder to close to him.
Rick journeys to a remote family camp in upstate Maine; to self-assess, define a future for himself and to understand how he became this way.
Rick’s journey confirms hope as to why he does what he does. An understanding of his infliction. So close to breaking through and ending a life of torment.
THEN --
There is a mass shooting in a town close to him. The killer, Peter, on the run. Man-hunt is on. Not long after the killer finds his way into Rick’s home, taking him hostage, inflicting pain.
Rick regresses quickly. MENTALLY SNAPS. Re-affirms his hatred for mankind.
Peter thinks he has escaped any repercussions from his violent actions. Rick has other plans for Peter. Peter is unfortunately unaware of Ricks intensions. Starts slowly, then picking up intensity, Rick begins the torment and mental dissection of Peter.
We learn of Peters’ childhood, family, behaviors, actions and instability, all play out as Rick picks away at every weakness. There interactions are unknowingly driving Peter acutely insane. All the while, providing Rick the ultimate, evil satisfaction his illness requires: The DESTROY it all.
As the authorities close in to Peter’s whereabouts, his level of insanity explodes. We watch as Rick succeeds in the slow destruction of another human’s mental stability.
Police find Peter dead. Horrible self harming and tortured, as Rick sits quietly, bound to a chair SMILING.
