Godzilla Minus Zero Releases Final Trailer Ahead of November Launch

By Kinolime Editorial Team // Verified Human Journalist Review

Summary

GKIDS will open Takashi Yamazaki's follow-up to the Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One with IMAX early access on November 3.
The final trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero arrived Sunday, Takashi Yamazaki's follow-up to Godzilla Minus One, according to Dread Central. Yamazaki writes and directs the film and again supervises its visual effects. It is the first Japanese production filmed for IMAX, and it screened at the New York Film Festival as a Spotlight Gala on September 26.
Toho releases the film in Japan on November 3. In North America, GKIDS will hold IMAX early-access screenings on November 3 before a nationwide release on November 6. Godzilla Minus One won the Academy Award for best visual effects.

The Kinolime Lens
"Godzilla Minus One rewrote what people thought a blockbuster could cost. A Japanese film with a fraction of a Hollywood budget won the visual effects Oscar over American tentpoles, largely because Yamazaki ran the effects himself and built every shot around a human story instead of spectacle for its own sake. That's why the sequel is one of the most anticipated international releases of the year.
The release pattern is the other thing worth noticing. A near day-and-date launch in Japan and North America, with a specialty distributor like GKIDS handling the U.S. side, shows how much the market for subtitled genre films has changed. International films no longer need to wait a year and hope for festival buzz to cross over. When the filmmaking is strong and the hook is universal, the language barrier is the smallest obstacle in the room."
