Hungary's Revised Budget Keeps HUF 63 Billion Behind Its 30% Rebate

Summary

The October budget amendment held film support steady after a year of caps, a registration freeze and a July restart.
"Hungary's revised 2026 central budget, published October 21 as Act LXI of 2026, keeps HUF 63 billion for indirect film support, the line that funds the country's 30% production rebate, Budapest Reporter reported on October 27. The figure matches the original 2026 allocation, and the European Commission-approved scheme runs through the end of 2030.
A December 2025 framework had set a HUF 70 billion annual limit and a HUF 140 billion ceiling for the first half of 2026. Law firm Andersen Hungary reported that registrations restarted on July 1, 2026 without that limitation, and Budapest Reporter, citing CMS, said the first-half ceiling no longer applies to applications filed after July 1. Budapest Reporter also quoted Deputy Prime Minister Anita Orbán calling in September for a ""stable and predictable framework"" for the rebate system.
Hungary's rebate has supported productions including Dune, Dune: Part Two, Blade Runner 2049, Poor Things, The Brutalist and Alien: Romulus, according to Budapest Reporter."
