Laika's Wildwood Testing an Event-Cinema Distributor Can Handle Rls
Summary
The independent stop-motion studio chose Fathom for domestic distribution and FilmNation for international sales, and Boxoffice Pro forecasts a $10 million to $15 million start.
"Laika's Wildwood, the stop-motion fantasy directed by Travis Knight, opens in North American theaters on Friday, October 23, through Fathom Entertainment, which handles domestic distribution, while FilmNation Entertainment handles international sales, under a partnership Laika announced in January. The film was also selected as the opening-night film of AFI Fest 2026, TheWrap and Deadline reported in September.
Boxoffice Pro's long-range forecast puts the opening at $10 million to $15 million, in line with comparable Laika openers. The outlet noted that Fathom has had success re-releasing Laika's Coraline but has less history with first-run releases, which made the opening screen count hard to pin down ahead of release. Fathom is best known for event-cinema programming such as anniversary screenings, concerts and limited special engagements.
Wildwood opens the same weekend as Warner Bros.' Clayface, Sony's Klara and the Sun and Amazon MGM's Ali G: Who Iz I?, according to Boxoffice Pro's release table."
