Tim Quillman, 38, waits at a bank to apply for a loan to open his dream restaurant, seeking to recapture the magic of his grandfather’s sold establishment and prove his worth to his recent ex-girlfriend, Andee Helmsman, 35. However, the bank requires a death day from Death Day Inc., a company that accurately predicts one’s death date. Following a breakup with Andee, Tim’s fraternal twin, Jimmy, 38, suggests they both get their death dates. At the ethereal Death Day offices, they learn Tim’s death is in a week and a day. After a frustrating death day mixer, Tim meets Zoey Belle, 35, a bold extrovert who proposes a risky but legal way to secure the needed funds. At “Les Chutes,” a high-end restaurant where Andee coincidentally works, Tim is introduced to Moses, 43, a loan shark offering the funding in exchange for being Tim’s sole beneficiary. Despite reservations, Tim agrees but is betrayed by Zoey, who settles a debt with Moses, leading to Tim being robbed and left for dead. Recovering at home, Tim finds that Jimmy has been uninformed for 48 hours. Jimmy reveals he’s rented their old grandfather’s restaurant for Tim’s final days. A final gift to send off. However, a gas explosion at the celebration injures them both, and Tim awakens in the hospital on his supposed death day to learn Jimmy has died, and the death dates were switched. In a twist of fate, Tim confronts Moses at “Les Chutes” but finds Zoey instead, attempting to recover Tim’s legal documents and make right by him. But, they are interrupted by Moses, leading to a fiery escape and Moses’s accidental death by one of his thugs, who is then arrested. With an inheritance from his brother Jimmy, Tim secures the loan to open his own restaurant, aptly naming it “Jimmy’s.”
