Female mercenary, JONI DARRINGTON, 45, receives word from her mother, ANNETTE, her estranged son, REUBEN, has been killed by local drug lord, DARIUS DEVLIN. Intent on revenge, Joni arrives in her hometown to discover Reuben was killed as he was an alleged police informant. Joni faces the haunting memories of her childhood abuse by her stepdad, FRASER, who is Reuben’s biological father.
To lure Devlin out in the open, Joni kidnaps his adult son, ZEKE, with the help of her mercenary buddy, QUAN. Joni demands Devlin meet to exchange Zeke for compensation for Reuben’s death, but Joni intends to kill Devlin at the meet. Zeke offers Joni an alternative to revenge in the form of forgiveness; he believes revenge is an everlasting circle going round and round….forgiveness is a straight line, forever moving forward and away from our pain. Joni scoffs at Zeke’s proposal; forgiveness is for the weak, revenge is the only lesson the guilty understand.
At the meeting, Quan is captured and Devlin reveals Zeke is the real police informant, but pointed the finger at Reuben to save his own skin. Quan makes the ultimate sacrifice, blowing himself up with a grenade, enabling Joni and Zeke to escape. Devlin snatches Zeke’s wife, DONNA and daughter, KESHA.
Zeke hatches a plan to save his family and give Joni another shot at killing Devlin. Zeke recently helped his corrupt handler, DCI PULAWI, seize a recent drug shipment for his dad. They make a deal with DCI Pulawi to use the shipment to lure Devlin to meet. At the meet, DCI Pulawi can arrest Devlin, but the truth is Joni will kill Devlin. Devlin agrees to meet them at an island drug drop-off, and exchange Donna and Kesha for the drug shipment. Joni drafts in two mercenaries buddies, MILO and EWAN, using Milo’s boat to take them to the island.
On the Island, Joni and Zeke meet Devlin’s crew; DCI Pulawi and the Firearms Unit watch from a ridge. After Devlin sees the drugs he kills Donna as punishment for Zeke’s betrayal. A shootout ensues; Zeke rescues Kesha, whilst Joni and Devlin fight hand to hand, beating the living daylights out of each other. Joni has the chance to kill Devlin….but hesitates, then handcuffs herself to Devlin, dragging him to Milo’s boat. When Zeke sees Joni bring Devlin onboard, he shoots to kill, hitting Joni by accident; she falls into the water taking Devlin with her. Milo tries to rescue them, but Joni pulls a grenade, forcing Zeke, Milo and Ewan to leave her and Devlin floating on the sea. Joni forgives Devlin, who can only spit venom in return. Joni tells Devlin Zeke was right…revenge is a never-ending circle, whilst forgiveness is a straight line, and the only way to escape the pain of loss.
Zeke and Kesha are given new identities. At the bottom of the sea….are an open pair of handcuffs…
