Vince, an 18 year old from the Bay Area, is seeking out the final members of his all-Asian band with the goal of making it on MTV. Unable to let go of his high school dream, he sends out his friends to give away flyers which advertise an audition held in his garage. Natty and Karma, a nonbinary Filipino and a mute Bhutanese respectively, both got fired from their jobs and had secretly voted among themselves to disband the group and plan on spilling the news. Vy, Vince’s cousin, is eager to finally be part of the band after acting as a ‘manager’ for the group throughout high school. Vy is let in under the condition that her boyfriend Gabriel, who Vince is secretly attracted to, also joins. Gabriel joins to make his girlfriend happy, but is upset knowing she couldn’t join on her own because she is female. Few people arrive at the audition, which prompts Vince to take a visit to the gas station with Gabriel. At the gas station they meet Jens, who pays for their snacks. Jens is blatantly a white man, but claims to be Korean after being offered an audition slot by Vince. They all go back to the garage together where Jens demonstrates his proficiency at the drums, causing Karma & Natty to reconsider the disbandment. For some reason, only Gabriel seems to understand that Jens is not Asian. Jens is offered the spot anyway, which upsets Vy who was promised she could drum for the band. The group argues until Jens receives a phone call, picking up and speaking to his parents in fluent Korean.
