Screenplay Synopsis:
Kaia is the youngest sister in a broken family. She lives with Stella, her older sister/head of the household, a long with George, their baby brother. After being abandoned by their mother, the family struggles to make ends meet. This hits Kaia the hardest, as she considers taking her own life as a result of the depression this has caused her. Her poor mental health makes it difficult for her to get things done, which makes Stella more upset with Kaia. It's a difficult situation for all of them, because Stella is the most important person to Kaia. She wants her to be proud of Kaia. But she doesn't realize, that Stella has always been proud of her. When Kaia buys a rope in hope of turning it into a noose later on, this triggers herself from the future to come and try to stop her. Kaia from the future claims that Kaia from the past, sent Kaia from the future to stop Kaia from the past. A time glitch. Regardless of what happened before, Kaia doesn't want their to be multiple versions of herself in the same reality. So she decides that ending her life would be the best option. She throws herself into the river. Drowning, and drowning, until she remembers the day her mom left. She remembers Stella saying she is proud to be her sister. Kaia's perspective changes. She fights back against the water and reaches the surface, where Stella and George wait for her. This makes future Kaia disappear for good. Kaia challenged the idea of inevitability.

Director's statement:

"Don't you want to live long enough to mess up?" Life is challenging. Sometimes, you just want to escape. Not everyone who struggles will be open to talking about it. So can optimism save a person's life? This is the question I asked myself when writing "Become Me." It's about how sometimes, your mindset can be in control of your survival. Having good people in your life will always be a factor of a person's happiness. I would hope for people to relate this film to a part of their brain they don't fully understand yet, and I hope this helps them understand it a little better. I don't have much experience writing screenplays. I've never taken a class. I like doing this for fun. I'm a person with a lot of ideas. "Become Me" is an idea I've had for years. It's nice to have it written out, finally.
