Calvin is an idiosyncratic artist whose ability to create his masterworks is at the whim of his sexual urges which Calvin has difficulty releasing without copious amounts of alcohol. While searching inspiration one day, Calvin comes across a woman, Donna, after an attempted suicide. He decides to help Donna as she refuses to go to a hospital. Calvin later decides she is going to be his next lay, due to meeting her during after four months of no sex. However, Donna disappears and Calvin reluctantly gains the help of his biggest fan and the one that got him his big break, Faith, in finding her. Faith takes Calvin to meet her spiritual guide, Angus, whose self-help cult has access to personal addresses like Donna’s aunt in Los Angeles. The next day Calvin misses several calls from Donna and when he goes to find her with Angus at Faith’s house, they are instead met with Yolanda, Faith’s feisty roommate, who refuses to help. Ultimately, Calvin believes that Donna killed herself due to Faith’s intervention and her demands for Donna leaves Calvin alone. Calvin and Faith get into a huge argument that leads to Calvin completely throwing out everything in his house. Calvin goes to Donna’s house and meets her brother and learns she didn’t die, she just went back to Michigan. While hurt and feeling pent up sexually, Faith sells Calvin’s house and promises her roommate as a sex servant for Calvin to use to quell his desires so he can continue to make more paintings. At first Yolanda is nervous to initiate, but opens up to Calvin after they open up to each other about their issues with sex. They have sober sex and Calvin is reinspired, creating several works of art. However, he discovers his old paintings have disappeared from the gallery they were in, causing him to start drinking again. This leads to issues in his relationship with Yolanda. While on a bender, he runs into Donna who apologizes and offers sex. Calvin declines thinking of Yolanda and instead gives Donna money to help her brother’s failed business. Calvin leaves Donna in the past and returns to Yolanda, who he ends up getting married to.
