Imagine a dystopian future, where the air is unbreathable and everyone needs a gas mask. Furthermore, the air is extremely incendiary due to the quantity of nitroglycerin present into it as poisonous gas (any combustion energy source is banned - they use electricity). Also, the more you get closer to the poles, the more the ice is explosive. The vehicles move with large self-rechargeable batteries and as weapons they use modern bows, swords, crossbows, speargun and specific guns, with dynamos inside, capable of firing thin iron bullets: these are ingredients for a spicy recipe.
Breathless is “I’M LEGEND” meets “MAD MAX”, because the protagonist is searching for a solution for the future of all mankind, avoiding dangerous people in an anarchic contest with unique world-rules.
Noah (protagonist), retrieves a diary containing the secret code to enter the Svalbard Global Seed Vault in Norway. His purpose is to reach some uncontaminated place and sow trees in order to clean up the air. This is a promise made to a once loved person, and he wants to keep it.
Found the diary (to decode), he runs into the Resistance fighting Anarchists, and at fist sight he is taken for a vagabond, so they keep him as a mechanic on the lower levels of the big city where members of the Resistance survive underground. But after an accident, a large machine catches fire and Noah, thanks to his knowledge as a chemist, manages to put out the particular fire due to the chemical substances that had started it. Now in the Resistance, they trust his ability so they force him to a military mission and fix powerhouse’s damage the underground city draws its energy from.
Moreover, a kid, considered sacred for her abilities to see the future, is kidnapped by Anarchists. She has seen the only place where it’s possible to plant seeds and must be saved.
During the journey he builds friendships, while antagonists come out between betrayals and old enemies. It all builds to the moment of Noah getting the code to enter the Bank, after fixing the powerhouse and deciphering the diary. But in the last mission to the north there are not only friends: the Anarchists take part because they are the only ones who own ships for the journey. And so a clash between the ice puts the survival of Noah and his promise to the test.
So, he reaches the frozen north and manages to recover the seeds through many dangers. But something changes him. Now he’s not doing that just for himself. Now he feels like he's responsible for the others’ future. Finally, he moves with his friends to build the New Garden in the south.
