It’s simple - don’t litter on the Steinmeiner Ranch on the outskirts of town during Earth Day. If you do, you have five years to adopt a clean, green, eco-friendly lifestyle or else a scary woman will come out of a cave when the half-decade is up and kill you. When one preteen defies this out of spite, a curse is placed upon him and the group of friends that are with him. After receiving Earth Day cards with “five years” written inside them, the group can’t determine if it’s for real or if it’s a prank, but decide the best course of action is to live the next five years as eco-friendly as possible, because how hard could it be? Turns out, incredibly hard. And with their five year grace period nearly up, and the threat of the personification of Mother Nature readying to unleash a firestorm of death and destruction on them, difficult decisions about lifestyle, community, and their relationship to the natural world must be made.
