My script, It’s About Time! is a meta-comedy set inside a mysterious antique clock shop in which two friends, named Jason and Melissa accidentally find themselves trapped by the humanoid personification of Time itself, an arrogant, all-powerful being who delights in manipulating both reality, and the other characters for his own amusement. He is incapable of treating any situation seriously, instead choosing to juxtapose and ignore serious topics such as an unconfessed love, the immorality of kidnapping, and the eventual death of humanity with jokes and childish games. As soon as they enter the shop, one of the friends; Jason, becomes trapped in a time loop, revealing that this is no ordinary store. Time arrives with a flash, and introduces himself, all the while, flaunting his ability to rewind, pause, and fast-forward events, just to assert his superiority. In response, Jason quickly jumps into foolishness and puns, which clash with Melissa’s attempts to stay grounded and rationalize the events. Time soon reveals that the shop is a trap designed to capture mortals for his entertainment. He intends to keep Jason and Melissa imprisoned for centuries. As Jason and Melissa begin to panic, Time temporarily leaves, stating how the two of them need to get used to their new lives. While he is gone, Jason and Melissa attempt to escape, only to learn they are completely bound by Time’s control. As Time returns, Jason in a desperate (and accidentally successful) act of rebellion, Jason knocks over a grandfather clock, crushing Time beneath it literally “killing time.” With Time now gone, the pair are now free, ending the script with one last stream of time-related puns as they head off to lunch. Throughout its entirety the script leans heavily into self-aware humor, breaking the fourth wall and openly acknowledging its own clichés, plot holes, and even its creation for this very contest.
