Vicki Heath (50) has been socially invisible since her husband passed away in a car accident two years earlier. Now, encouraged by her outrageous best friend Vanessa, she’s ready to move on with life. The first step is disposing of her late husband’s classic Mercedes - still sitting in her garage, a constant reminder of what she’s lost.
At the wrecking yard she meets owner Jeff Ferriman and the motley crew who work there – Jeff’s daughter Holly, mechanics Ryan and Topper, and Conan the yard manager who’s secretly in love with widower Jeff.
Jeff restores cars that come to him after accidents in which people have died, returning them to perfect condition before taking them on one last drive to the spot where their owner was killed, to pay homage to the departed. Sounds macabre but it’s actually quite moving. Of course, once Jeff sees the classic Merc he doesn’t want to crush it.
Holly uses the car as an excuse to bring her dad and Vicki together and after a couple of false starts they begin to get on. Vicki relents about the car and asks Jeff to restore it and take one last drive to the site of her husband’s accident believing it will give her the closure she has been looking for.
Conan is not happy about any of this. Drunk and jealous after confessing her love and being rejected by Jeff, Conan drops the Merc into the crusher in an attempt to kill Vicki and Jeff’s romance once and for all.
With the car reduced to a cube of squashed metal, Jeff can’t bring himself to face Vicki. Vicki assumes he is avoiding her after they slept together. It seems their shot at romance is over.
But Holly, Vanessa and even the remorseful Conan have other ideas…
Jeff’s Junk is an original, uplifting rom-com for Generation X that proves happiness can be found at any time of life and in the strangest places. Because hope, like wrecked cars, can always be restored.
