Missouri, 1861. Em, her father, Joseph, and aunt, Martha, flee Missouri after Joseph is requested to host injured Confederate soldiers. While alone, Em kills a soldier forcing the family to leave sooner than anticipated. On the road, conflicts arise with active soldiers following them on account of this murder, and brings the family into the Confederacy’s immediate attention. When settled in their new home, the family searches for work in the local town, where Joseph is killed by a raging drunk, and Martha is kidnapped by him and his gang. Em searches for a mercenary, Johnny, to get her revenge and to rescue her aunt, while a small platoon of soldiers are in hot pursuit. Johnny then teaches Em the importance of keeping her cool in stressful situations, and they successfully take out 2 members of the assailants gang. When Johnny is killed by one of the gang members on their journey, Em is left to find the leader who has Martha on her own, and brings together the complete collection of skills she had acquired in order to successfully kill the man and save Martha. Upon returning home, the platoon has finally caught up to her, and Em and Martha must protect each other and their home, finally putting to rest this nightmare and allowing her to honor her fathers legacy in a way most fitting to his character.
