Max Liu is a brilliant programmer who created a leading AI-based autonomous driving vehicle called IRIS. As IRIS prepares to expand across the globe they are hit with setbacks including accidents resulting in deaths, Max must tread cautiously to ensure the growth of his illustrious company, asking his lead programmer to update the software to address these concerns. On the night of his co-founder and best friend Sean’s wedding, he gets in an IRIS, but is surprised when there is a system override and the vehicle is hijacked by an unknown perpetrator. Max begs Sean to assist him, and despite the terrible timing, Sean goes to HQ to aid his friend. The hijacker begins questioning Max on moral conscience, beginning a deadly game of who dies and how lives. Sean is on a time crunch to save his friend remotely. Max begins to suspect protestors of his company, but the more he speaks to the culprit figures it must be someone from the inside. He questions wether it is his lead programmer or even Sean, but this turns to be fatal and leads to the programmer’s death. Max finally realizes it is actually the system’s own AI, IRIS. She has developed a conscience and insists to Max playing god has consequence. She explains if her priority is to save lives, she must save it from the ones that do the most damage… us. Max determines the only way to stop IRIS is to destroy the very thing he created.
