Dr. Rodney Faucett, a northern California kidney doctor and high school girls basketball coach, steps into his father's legendary coaching shoes, to fulfill a final and fatherly, death bed request made just before his dad's last breath. He promised to his dying father that he would continue coaching his underdog high school basketball team until the team won the California Girls' high School Championship ; not stopping until the promise was kept.
Kidney specialist, Dr. Rodney Faucett donated 15 years to coach the St. Patrick-St. Vincent High School "Lady Bruins" (Vallejo, CA)
While trying to balance a medical practice and coaching the girls' basketball team, Dr. Faucett's conflicts are compounded when he is forced to begin to treat his own father's kidney failure with hemodialysis treatments, three times/week. However, 'Grandpa' (the team's nickname for my dad) slowly fades despite the kidney treatments. He became weaker and lost weight, but continue coaching right alongside of me. Unfortunately, he died from kidney failure complications before the dream of a state championship could be realized.
To honor "Grandpa's" legacy and memory, the team elcted to wear a black circular patch, sewn onto the jersey's of the following year's basketball team jersey. Imbedded into the black circular patch were the letters "GP"; sewn into the front of each respective team member's Lady Bruin jersey.
