12 yo Scott suspects where his attraction lies, yet not until he meets David during his yearly vacation at the lake is he sure. Summer 1: Scott and David become friends. At the end of the week, they realize it is more, and Scott must wait the year to see him again. Summer 2: Both boys waste no time picking up where they left off. At the end of the week, they are determined to write each other over the next year. Scott writes, yet gets no response. Summer 3: David is distant and dismissive, leaving Scott hurt and confused. The week ends tragically, leaving Scott to spend the year not knowing whether or not David is alive. Summer 4: We find out. Against all of this is the brotherly teasing of Scott's older brother Eric, and the determined pursuit of Scott by David's sister, as well as an attempt to get David's widowed mother and Scott's uncle together.
