Director's statement:
Often times, growing up you’re too young to comprehend the complexities between your parents’ relationship. It isn’t until you reach that age where you’ve intellectually matured, that you realize the weight of it all. That weight hits you, and it hits you hard. Of course, all relationships are different and not everyone is as deeply impacted by what they experience, but in writing this screenplay I chose to highlight something that I’ve personally seen in my life more and more as I’ve grown older. Toxic masculinity and narcissism. It’s not to the extent that Jocelyn goes through in this, but I still see myself in her at times and that’s why I chose to go through with this story. Because whether you’ve had an extremely similar experience to Jocelyn’s, or just in the slightest degree, or don’t resonate at all, I want readers to be able to sympathize and feel something while reading this screenplay. To think twice about it, to think about how they or someone they love may resonate with this story and be able to find some closure in knowing they’re not completely alone. If I could give anyone, anything of what I just said, I’d be beyond happy.
