AARON FRANKLIN finds disturbing bloody imagery left in his basement. In D.C, CARSON MILES, a detective mourns the loss of his wife RACHEL while supporting his dying father JOSEPH. He fights drug and alcohol issues against the backdrop of a presidential election cycle. An anonymous employer pays him to investigate RICHARD KELLY, a candidate and member of a secular Christian group. He is tasked with proving an affair with his aide, MELISSA BROOKS. Carson bugs the campaign offices and bumps into Melissa while leaving. While trailing her, he’s spotted by PAT O’KEEFE, a police detective and old friend. Entering Melissa’s house, he finds a RED DOO, DIRT deposit and DEAD FOX – cult symbols he will chase throughout the script. Plagued by nightmares, he realizes Melissa has gone AWOL and fears for her safety. He meets KATRINA, an intern of Kelley and friend of Melissa, who he soon begins to date. After a visit to Melissa’s mother, she is found dead which O’Keefe attributes to a suicide. Paranoia creeps into Carson’s thinking as he begins buying into online conspiracies. His apartment is ransacked. Katrina talks about the importance of lineage. Franklin reveals himself to be Carson’s employer – telling him to cease activity. He then kills himself. O’Keefe tells Carson to get clean as he’s involved in two suicides now. At Franklin’s residence he finds texts on Ancient Christian orders. He recalls feeling responsible for Rachel’s death. Carson learns his father is working with Kelley for Church matters. He matches the cult symbols from Melissa’s house with Franklin’s library of books about THE ORDER OF THE 11TH LIGHT. Their prophecy announces the joining of two houses. O’Keefe tells Carson his father is deteriorating. Carson hits the bottle hard and is picked up after causing a scene in a Church. O’Keefe says Joseph has passed. At the funeral, Carson confronts Kelley – who presents Melissa as alive and well. Carson reels, agrees he needs help. As he recovers, he and Katrina get serious about their relationship. Visiting her parents, he discovers links between their family and the cult. Knocked out, he awakes at a ritual which will bind their bloodline (that of the prophet) with his bloodline (that of a betrayer). He strangles Katrina when she reveals she killed Rachel under instruction, killing her. The cult, including O’Keefe and everyone he knows, seem satisfied. Kelley wins the election, swinging a tight race in his favor by suggesting that his opposition was involved in the murder of Katrina (his niece) and her unborn child. The unborn child signifies the union of the houses prophesied and Kelley uses the example in favor of his abortion stance. Carson is arrested.
