Director's statement:
There is so much miscommunication and assumptions made among people, especially in high school. Young girls in high school feel as if they need to be perfect. Like they need to hold themselves up to a certain standard that others set for them, especially when you're imprisoned by your popularity. Although, there are those in high school who are self aware that high school is just the beginning step in life. That there is so much more then caring about what people think or say about you, and those people are outcasts, alienated for becoming their own genuine self. Expressing themselves in the way they choose. They're found "weird" or "freaky", These people are the most passionate. Caring deeply for something they found comfort in when the world has turned its back to them. A sketchbook, a stage, a loved one's guitar. Written Works of a Stranger shows two young girls, throwing everything away from the immense pressure of their past high school lives, deciding to ignore the past expectations for an evening, to simply learn each other. Through words, they realize that is doesn't matter what clique you're from, who your friends are, or if you even have any, simply because people talk to each other, for being human. Written Works of a Stranger covers fear, eliminating it due to the unknown and possible future, when admiration overpowers. Subconsciously these lovers bring themselves together just by sharing themselves, being vulnerable, making confessions. Even when life outside of the one who understands you proves itself to be unworthy of your time, you devote it to those who are.
