Director's statement:
I've always been interested in making movies and since entering high school I've wanted to at the very least make a short film. I spent a couple months playing with ideas until I landed on this script. It started small with just the bare bones idea of two officers taking a call to a home which was more dangerous then they would have ever thought. And over time I built the story up from a basic script that had very little substance to a more rounded idea with proper plot and characters. I first started with the idea of a police story because at the time I was gonna film this from a body cam perspective because I had very few people to work with and wanted to cut out the camera man. I still intend on using this style of filming mixed with traditional shots in between. I want to take long shots of footage to make it feel more like you're watching genuine bodycam footage. The visuals will change with the story as well. The lighting will be brighter but as the story and time shift the scenes will look darker and more scary. Dialogue will also change with it being less formal and professional and slowly change into panic. With the film as a whole I want to present a message of how quickly a seemingly normal day can turn on its head for the worse. As well as this film is a combination of all my inspirations from movies like 28 days later and REC with the style of filming. But I also put in my own ideas like how the story is focused on the very beginning of the apocalypse instead of how most movies use it as a stepping stone for the majority of the film. I wanted to use the bending because I thought the pannick, confusion and tension that comes with a major event like this would be great for creating the tone I was looking for.
